Low-cost carrier Ryanair is scaling back its operations in Greece for the upcoming winter season, a move that will impact travelers across several European destinations.

The airline confirmed that it will close its Thessaloniki base, where three aircraft were previously stationed. As part of the restructuring, Ryanair plans to remove around 700,000 seats from its winter schedule and discontinue 12 routes connecting Greece with destinations across Europe.

According to the airline, the decision was driven by what it described as excessively high operating charges at Greek airports managed by Fraport Greece as well as at Athens International Airport.

Routes Being Discontinued

Passengers will see the following services removed from Ryanair’s network:

Thessaloniki – Berlin

Thessaloniki – Chania

Thessaloniki – Frankfurt-Hahn

Thessaloniki – Gothenburg

Thessaloniki – Heraklion

Thessaloniki – Niederrhein

Thessaloniki – Poznan

Thessaloniki – Stockholm

Thessaloniki – Venice Treviso

Thessaloniki – Zagreb

Athens – Milan Malpensa

Chania – Paphos

In addition to the route cancellations, Ryanair is also withdrawing aircraft previously based in Chania and Heraklion, further reducing its footprint in Greece during the quieter travel months.

While the airline has not officially confirmed any future plans, its announcement hints that some of these services could potentially return after the 2026/27 winter season if operating conditions improve.

The cuts are expected to affect travelers looking for low-cost winter flights between Greece and several major European cities, particularly those relying on budget connections during the off-season.
